RE-CARE APPOINTMENTS

When you come for these appointments, you need to think of them as insurance.  No, not a guaranty, but rather the best money you can spend to protect the investment you have in your mouth.  The investment you have made may be an extreme amount of time and effort keeping your mouth healthy and pristine.  Or, it may be an extreme amount of money you have spent rehabilitating your mouth to a point you finally feel good about it.  Finally, it may be that you are attempting to maintain your current condition, so that when you finally get to invest the resources you need to, there won't be even that much more to do.

Typically, at Re-care visits, Dr. Wheeler will perform the same type of exam he performed during your initial visit.  These are typically quicker though due to his familiarity with your previous condition.  Any X-rays that need to be taken with be made and the appropriate cleaning for your periodontal condition will be performed.  Any review of oral hygiene skills, such as brushing and flossing techniques, will also be discussed at this time. 

The biggest difference is the time between Re-care appointments.  For those that are free of Periodontitis.  Dr. Wheeler typically recommends that his patients be seen at least every 6 months.  For those with advanced periodontal disease and those being treated by an orthodontist be seen every 3-4 months, depending on their condition.
